The Simple System I Use to Measure Each Team Member’s Revenue & Pay Out Performance Bonuses

If you have a team that you feel isn’t giving their best, try a bonus scheme. Something like giving back 5–10% of your profit to the team can work really well. 👇

Here is our model: fixed salary plus a performance bonus, 10% of whatever profit (or revenue) each person brings in.

The model works for many reasons, but the main one is simple: if I win, they win too. They see the actual substance (money) flowing into their pockets, not just mine.

It’s fair play.

If I lose money because of poor performance, it hurts them as well. Recently, one of our team members nearly doubled his income thanks to this bonus scheme. 🔥

To track the revenue each member generates, I use staff codes in our article URLs and UTM parameters for traffic sources.

Example: Pinterest

For Pinterest, our team members handle two parts:

  1. Writing content
  2. Creating + pinning pins

Each part earns them 5% of the revenue they generate, so 5% for content + 5% for pins = 10% total bonus.

1. Content Tracking

Each article has a staff code at the end of its URL, like this:

/classic-home-office-ideas-anne01/

At the end of the month, I open GA4, and filter all URLs containing the code “-anne01“.

Then I take the total traffic number, apply the RPM, and calculate how much that staff member generated. The writer gets 5% for content creation.

2. Pin Traffic Tracking

For pins, I use UTM parameters. Nothing complicated, something like this works:

?utm_source=pinterest&utm_medium=anne01

When publishing a new pin, a team member simply adds her UTM code to the end of the article URL, like this:

https://sample.com/halloween-living-rooms/?utm_source=pinterest&utm_medium=anne01

In GA4, go to:
Reports > Acquisition > Traffic acquisition > Select Session Source/Medium > Filter “anne01”
This shows all the traffic Anne generated from pinning in the last month.

Formula: 5% × RPM × Total traffic = Bonus

Each member only takes me about 5 minutes to calculate their bonus. It also gives us a chance to sit down together, talk through the results, and share how they feel about the work.

What About Facebook Traffic?

Facebook works the same way, using the staff code tracking + UTM parameters.

  • Writing = 5% bonus
  • Social traffic from Facebook = 5% bonus
What I actually use

How I schedule and analyze our Facebook posts

I used to pay for two tools: one to schedule posts and another to see what actually worked. It was expensive, messy, and neither was really built for Facebook pages. So I built my tool that does both, properly, in one place: Insight Hive.

Cool post. Would also love to learn more about how you train them?
